The Life of Saint Nicholas |
|
The festival of Christmas is liked by children primarily due to Santa Claus. They look forward for the visit from Santa Claus. The legend of Santa Claus goes back to the time when a man called Nicholas lived in this universe. He was a rich person who had inherited a vast fortune and used it to help the poor. There is a popular story of Nicholas helping a man who had three daughters by throwing a bag of gold every night. Apart from these, he was a staunch Christian who believed in following Christ’s footsteps. He once snatched the sword from an executioner’s hand and threw money to help two girls from being sold. His attitude of being a pious Christian brought him the hatred of many.
On the day of 23 February of the year 303, Emperor Diocletian started one of the longest and brutal persecutions against the Christians. Many Christians were executed, bibles were burnt, and Christian homes were confiscated. During these years, Nicholas was jailed, brandished hot irons rods and was also pinched with metal pliers because he refused to deny that Jesus was a god. Despite he never admitted what he was told to and received the torture after his skin healed. After the persecution process, a preacher taught him that Jesus was not a God. Somehow the anti-Christian policy was heading in dividing the church. The preaching was very strong and they opposed anything to accept Jesus as God.

As there were very few Christian supporters, their voice went unheard. They tried their best in bringing awareness in others; buy all their acts went in vain. At a Christian leaders conference, many supporters who had survived the torture appeared and the preacher sang the evil song of Jesus’ absence. Nicholas could not tolerate, he walked up to the man and broke his mouth. This incident banned Nicholas from preaching henceforth, but he never took any serious concern. He turned towards founding orphanages and caring for the poor children. Eventually, Nicholas passed away and Christians also fought constantly and won over their expression of believing Jesus. But Nicholas had a concerned heart for everyone and this made him change to ‘Santa Claus’.
Nicholas stood strong with all sorts of resistances against him for following Christ, but he never gave up. His strong belief and determination made him above all. Though Nicholas was abused, be followed Christ. Nicholas life was a lovable gift to others and you should on this Christmas day pray that your life should be worth it. |
