The Imprisoned Devotee |
|
There are many stories that are related to Christmas, Jesus Christ and also the millions of people who believe in the presence of Christ to this very day. Once there was a poor man who regularly devoted his time to the worship of Jesus. He was the only one who believed in the presence of Jesus in the entire village and was always the butt of all the jokes. Yet this did not deter him from believing in his Jesus. The entire village ridiculed him by saying that if Jesus really existed then his poverty should have been eradicated due to his constant prayers.
One night the devotee had cooked a fish for dinner. When he sat down to eat, there was a knock on the door. He opened the door and saw an old stranger at the door. He asked for some food to eat. The man happily obliged and gave him the fish he had cooked for himself. Unfortunately, a bone got stuck in the old man’s mouth and he died due to the suffocation. As the man was a pious devotee, he informed his neighbors about the death of the old man. His story was doubted by the people. They suspected that he had killed the old man.

They reported it to the king. The king visited the house of the devotee and found that the dead old man was none other than the king’s old and faithful minister who had decided to tour the entire kingdom to know about the real internal affairs of the state. The minister chose to disguise himself as an old traveler so that no one would identify him. Everyone was convinced that the devotee had killed the old man for gaining wealth. The king imprisoned him for murder and he was ordered to be hanged after a month.
He was imprisoned and he awaited his fate. He prayed to Jesus everyday. Right from the day he set foot into the prison, it started to rain in the entire kingdom. It rained for an entire month without any pause at all. As a result, the entire kingdom was mostly submerged. Even all the cells in the prison were submerged to the level of the prisoners’ necks, but the cell that housed the devotee was not wet. This surprised the king and he ordered for the release of the man. The next moment it stopped raining. Now all the people realized the presence of Jesus. They begged forgiveness from him. He prayed loudly to Jesus to take him away from the world. His prayer was immediately answered as all the people saw a vision of Jesus and next second, he took the devotee to paradise with him in reward for his unwavering faith even during the most hopeless period of life. |
