Once in a city, there lived a generous couple. They were the most generous people in the entire city. Both the husband and the wife were righteous in their duties and they did what was right. So they were much liked in the neighborhood. They had a son who was also like minded. He also acted like his parents. They were an ideal family in the city as they did what was right. They never offended anyone and were very pleasing. They were sincere in their worship and visited the church everyday. Even the priest of the church developed a liking towards them.
However, the children of the city were very naughty and extremely rude. They would play all kinds of tricks on people and especially strangers. If they saw a stranger in their city, they would stone him or let the dogs on the stranger and they would watch the fun. The son of the generous couple never took part in such activities. If he found a stranger being ill treated, he would invite him to his house. His parents too would also appreciate his act. So the entire family was like a diamond in the midst of a swamp.

During a Christmas, the boy observed a stranger being chased by dogs and the children laughing heartily. This was a usual sight. But that day he felt sad as the stranger was being troubled even on a holy occasion like Christmas. He chased the dogs away and invited the stranger home for lunch. The stranger agreed as he was both, tired and hungry. The couple welcomed him cordially and served him lunch. After the lunch, the stranger wanted to sleep and the couple offered him a mat as they were not very rich. The stranger slept for the entire day.
The stranger awoke the next morning and asked for some food that he could carry during his journey. That day, there was no food in the entire house. The stranger asked the lady to check the kitchen. She did as he told and was astonished to find lunch in the kitchen. She at once packed the food the stranger asked for. The three of them came out of the house and waved him a happy journey. After this, they turned towards their house and were astonished. In the place of their house, there stood a magnificent mansion. They realized that their guest was none other than Jesus Christ himself. They were richly rewarded for their generosity and the mansion always attracted strangers. |
