A Valuable Dime

This is a fantastic touching story of a Christmas gift about a poor child Bobby. Bobby was sitting on his back yard without any boots or coat. He never owned one such thing called boots or coat and so sat shivering in the snow. His thin sneakers also had holes in them and could not keep him out of the biting cold. He almost sat there for more than an hour and was occupied so much that he did not sense the cold. He was busy thinking about buying a gift for his mother for Christmas. However, he knew that thinking was another waste of time as he had no money to buy gifts.

Bobby’s mother worked night shifts at a hospital and had a tough time making the ends meet for a family of five. As her earnings were small and since his father passed away before three years, his mother could stretch nothing more than love and family unity. Bobby had three sisters, two older and younger who took charge of all the household chores in their mother’s absence. All three sisters made adorable gifts for their mother. But he could not buy anything. He walked through the shops peering at each window, everything looked beautiful. Bobby reluctantly walked home when something glimmering caught his attraction. He reached for it and unearthed a shiny dime.

Bobby felt very wealthy and warm, but the moment he realized that this dime could buy nothing for his mother he was totally disappointed. Bobby slowly requested the shop owner if he could get one rose out of this dime. The shop owner asked him to wait, and Bobby had no other go. The owner returned with 12 long red roses and tiny white flowers and placed them in a box. Bobby knew that this box would be expensive and the shop owner announced that they were for ten cents. Bobby’s heart shrank; by then the shop owner noticed Bobby’s reluctance added that now he had some roses for ten cents a dozen on sale and enquired Bobby would he like them. Bobby’s joy knew no bounds and the owner wished him’ Merry Christmas, Son’.

Hearing voices, the shop owner’s wife came and the shop owner told her that in the morning when he opened the shop, he heard a voice requesting him to set aside one dozen best roses as gift. And he had done so with reluctance. However, few minutes ago, a small boy came with a dime asking for a flower for his mother. The moment the owner saw the boy he recollected that many years ago, he also was a poor boy waiting to buy a Christmas gift for his mother with not a penny in hand. Astonishingly, a bearded man appeared and told the owner of today that he wished to give him ten dollars. But today the shop owner recognized the voice and put the best roses for the best mother from her best son.
