This is in fact the oldest carol in English. This carol is well known and is the common carol known widely for its sincerity and simplicity.
This carol has traveled through the world of mouth and this gained prominence after it was published in 1833. This Christmas carol brings out the moments of the birth of Jesus Christ in such a lively manner that you have a feeling of an episode going right in front of you.
The poor shepherds with their sheep were trying to sleep on a cold winter’s night and an angel came running to them saying that the king of Israel had been born.
The shepherds were delighted and saw a star beyond them shining in the east and it gave immense light to the earth day and night. With the guidance of this light of the star, three men came seeking a king and followed the star wherever the lights took them.
The three wise men reached Bethlehem and took some rest. They reverently bowed on their knee and offered gold and myrrh to the newly born Jesus. They sang praises of lord that made heaven and earth equal. Mankind was bestowed with Jesus presence and there was a definite reason for being sincere and honest. |
