Christmas is not only the biggest festival of the Christians but it is also one of the largest and mostly celebrated festivals of the world. People enjoy every bit of it and every Christian no matter how bad his financial state is; try to celebrate in this particular time of the year. 25th December is the birthday of the great, holy saint Jesus Christ and all the Christians of this world celebrate that period in the name of Christmas. People greet and wish each other in this great occasion.
We all know that cards play a great role on such occasions and the Christmas is no different. People convey good wish and blessings through these cards.
People in general want occasions to celebrate and make merry, thus they start celebrating when they get a gorgeous festival like Christmas. A huge range of sentiment, emotion and feelings are shared among people through these Christmas cards. First commercial Christmas card was commissioned in the year 1843 in London. Both England and U.S have their own way of designing Christmas cards.
Cards are usually exchanged during the weeks preceding the Christmas day on the 25th December. As we know that New Year comes after a few days of Christmas, so people generally write ‘Wishing You a Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year’. |

There are various types of cards containing a poem or a prayer or a Biblical verse. During Christmas time these cards are commercially designed and purchased in the market. The sign of various Christian symbols, the star of Bethlehem or a white dove representing peace and prosperity can be found as the design of these cards. Santa clause, the holy old man who gives away presentations to children and other objects related to Christmas such as candles, holly and design of little toys can also be found in these cards.
Actually Christmas cards can bear the message of love, friendship or anything. People do lots of shopping and partying in this particular season. Another good thing about Christmas card is that many organizations publish Christmas cards in order to raise funds for charity and some other does this to do some noble causes like the welfare of distressed people.
As we have already discussed that there are various types of Christmas cards, trade cards of the 18th century can be taken as the ancestor of the modern Christmas cards.
With time the design of the Christmas cards are also changing. Many people exchange home-made Christmas cards to each other. Thus this great festival has been celebrated all over this world for ages in which cards have been playing a great role to keep the charm and exuberance of this holy festival called the Christmas. |
